Our network, supported by non-profit funding, features a fellowship, programming support, and data and testing from the Fellow Americans network.

In 2022 the BII fellowship hosted 80 creators across YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok generating 850+ videos.

We are are seeking to create a space to offer expanded programming support, opportunities for partnerships & sponsors and more importantly community building for the BII fellows.

The 2022 Fellowship

It its third year, BII expanded to 50 creators across YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram. Programming support also grew, with partnerships with external organizations and a goal of producing more than 450 videos that reach at least 55 million subscribers among Youtube creators, and another 75 million TikTok and Instagram. Creators cover topics including democracy and non-partisan voter information, climate change, health care including COVID education, and economic justice.

The 2021 Fellowship

In 2021, we launched the Better Internet Initiative 2.0 to help creators make educational material about four pivotal topics. Onboarding more than 45 creators to participate in a year-long program, they created over 400 videos featuring educational information about 4 key topic areas on YouTube and Instagram: Public Health, Democracy, Climate Change, Social Justice + Equity and Economic Justice. Creators used their own voices and channels to distribute fact-checked but personal information to their audiences.

The 2020 Fellowship

Accessible COVID-19 Information

In 2020, in the middle of the pandemic, we launched the Better Internet Initiative to help creators make educational material about COVID-19. We onboarded more than 30 creators over a few months and worked closely with them to create interstitial messages on topical creative content. Creators used their own voices and channels to distribute fact-checked but personal information to their audiences.

Voting Content

Encouraging civic participation

Extending our creator engagement beyond that of our 2020 fellows — with its focus on COVID-19 — we worked with creators ona series of interstitial voting content using the latest information and testing results.
